Bronze for Cuba in Canoe World Championship
Cubans Reiner Torres and Carlos Montalvo won the bronze medal in the K-2 event at 1000 meter in the 2009 Canoe Sprint World Championships in the Canadian city of Darmouth.
The Cuban couple achieved the best result for the small Caribbean
delegation in the first finals since in the C-2 José Carlos Bulnes and
Serguei Torres finished in the sixth position and Raidel Ramos placed ninth in the C-1 event.
Meanwhile, Jorge Garcia in Final B K-1 finished in the sixth position,
thus ending up in the 15th position in the 1000 meter race. Torres and Montalvo clocked 4:00.215 minutes, well behind world champions German Mercha-Cosgaya (3:14.610) and Australian Smith-Morrison (3:15.809), according to the event’s website.
C-2 Bulnes and Torres (3:41.959) crossed the finished line in the sixth place, in an event won by Germany (3:37.380), Azerbaijan (3:37.462) and Russia (3:38.758).
