Joseph hosts this, and says:

Do you want actually dance CASINO, and not LA or NY styles, in your ruedas? Me too.

Anyone want to meet regulary to do some casino rueda, Cuban style?

I am not a professional or dance instructor. You teach me what you know and I teach you what I know. The important thing is to keep dancing.

As it turns out, we are meeting every Saturday downtown, 12-3 PM in a central downtown location. And alternate Thursdays, about 8-10 pm, same location. Find out more details by emailing: joseph kim <joekim27@yahoo.com>. There is no FINANCIAL cost… but you WILL be required to sweat… dancing with “vigah”… to 100% Cuban timba music. 8:00 pm

Look at the line up for this show… and marvel once again at the talent we have in this city.  If there were as many appreciative fans as there should be… it really would be Havana North in Toronto.  But, there are more fans every day so these talented artists may yet get their due respect in Canada.

Afrolatino Dance Company and Roberto Linares Brown bring us this sizzling Cuban cabaret, reminiscent of a night at Havana’s Tropicana – complete with beautiful show girls and live Cuban orchestra featuring special guests Changuito, Telmary, Angel Luis, Alberto Alberto and Yani Borrel. With DJ Billy Bryans.

The finest Cuban performers in the coutry join forces to take you on a one night trip to Havana.  Here’s the FACEBOOK event page.

Albena de Assis founder of Afrolatino has been a major force in creating and fostering the Cuban salsa scene that Toronto now enjoys, increasing awareness of the cultural roots of Cuban dance through lessons, performances and a partnership with groundbreaking presenters Okokan Productions. Afrolatino will treat audience to special cuban dance review as part of our I am Cuba LULAWOLRD presentation.

The performance will be followed by a dance lesson byAna Machado. A professional dancer since she was 6 years old, Ana has danced with Havana’s Escuela Nacional de la Danza,  the prestigious Compania de la Danza Moderna and as lead dancer in the famous Tropicana dance troupe, with which she has toured the globe

Bandleader/arranger/pianist/composer extraordinaire Roberto Linares Brown was a catalyst for the creation of Lula Lounge’s popular Havana Norte series which has featured a who’s who of Toronto-based Cuban musicans. Linares Brown has been contributing to the series since 2006 performing original compositions that became the basis of his brilliant 2008 solo release, “Que No Se Pierda La Essencia”. After an extended tour of Europe in 2008, Roberto Linares Bbrown (aka El Seña’) returned to Canada – boasting new compositions and with a renewed desire to take Toronto’s alsa scene to the next level.

A night focussing on the riches of Cuban dance culture would be incomplete without DJ Billy Bryans. As one of the best salsa DJs in Toronto, as well as a promoter and publicist, Billy been pivotal in bringing the music of Cuba to a wider Canadian audience.

Afrolatino Dance Company at 8pm, dance lesson at 9pm,  Roberto Linares Brown Orchestra with special guests at 10pm.
