Sometimes there’s a great Cuban dance night in Ajax, Havana Nights.  Other times, it’s a lot of merengue, bachata, cumbia, and a little bit of salsa.  In between sets, it’s formula super-loud house music… a good time to get some fresh air !

But the good nights are great nights.  It’s hard to tell when to go, there’s no detail on the website.  If you talk to the people there, they vaguely tell you it’s gonna be whatever you want it to be.

So, maybe one clue is when is Papiosco is signed to go out.  In the next 2 months here’re the dates:

Here are some quick news flashes !
Sat September 6 2008 – Carnavalissimo  at the Guelph Jazz festival -  Afro Cuban inspired Carnaval parade starting from the riverrun theatre  to location where Jane Bunnett and band will be playing.
Invited dancers  Felix "Pupy" Insua from New York ; Jennifer Donello : Juan Carlos Bulnes ( from cubaintoronto.com) : Tony Bauta and more TBA  many more leading the procession.  We will also be organizing workshops with Pupy FRI SEPT 5 ( comparsa/conga/Carnaval )  and Sunday SEPT 7 (AfroCuban)  through Afrolatino dance company and inviting all interested  dancers to participate in the parade on Saturday night .

SEPT 4- SEPT 13  Toronto International film festival – We will keep our eyes open for any films from Cuba – No news yet . But really exciting news is that YOUSSOU N’DOUR will be performing a free concert at  YONGE/DUNDAS square as part of the festival that will be screening a documentary about this amazing Senegalese musician .

THE CUBA PROJECT

A Canadian humanitarian program dedicated to the collection and delivery of items vital to the Cuban people. It started off as Harold Hussein’s idea to send recycled bicycles to Cuba. Inside the crates, were also medical supplies and anything else they could cram into the crevices between
          the bikes, turning it into a major relief effort. Crates continue to be made up and are ready to send to Cuba. All we need is for you to buy a ticket to our terrific event and come out and have a great time…
