He’s been a close friend and collaborator with many people involved in Cuban Culture in the city. Avid student of Cuban musical and spirtual tradition, he carried the flame with spread his enthusiasm. He has been on the stage at Lula Lounge playing multiple instruments with various bands. He has lately been on the stage with Los Van Van in the warmup for the most recent show.
Born in Windsor, Ontario on September 23, 1966, after a lengthy battle with cancer, on September 27, 2012 at 46 years of age, Michael passed away. A passionate, humourous man with endless enthusiasm for, and a love of, music, learning, research, and good conversation. A man of many hats, who fought the bigger battles to lessen the load of others.
The Marcuzzi family and York University invite you to come and join them in celebrating Michael’s life. A memorial and tribute concert for Dr. Marcuzzi will be held in Winters College Dining Hall at York’s Keele campus (Room 001 Winters College, 72 Winters Lane) on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Friends and colleagues are invited to gather at 6:30pm, with the full program to begin at 7pm. Following the memorial, guests will be welcome to gather intimately in the Senior Common Room next door (021 Winters College) or continue celebrating (music, dance, BAR) in the Dining Hall.
A renewable entrance bursary in memory of Michael Marcuzzi will be established at York to support a promising young artist entering first year of studies in the Department of Music. Donations are welcome, and may be made online or by contacting Danielle Ludwick by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org in the Development Department, Division of Advancement. Gift cards will also be available at the memorial event.
