The cuban folkloric Ire Omo troupe based locally, puts on two shows at Harbourfront this Sunday July 31.
RITMO: Cuban Clavé and Drum Rhythms Family Event 3 pm to 4 pm
Families young and old can explore the Cuban clavé as a percussion instrument in this hour-long, interactive drumming, dance and song workshop with Sara Leyva and Yordanis O’Reilly of Iré Omó and Iyá Iré Afro Cuban Drum and Dance Ensembles.
Carnaval Cubano! 7 PM Redpath Stage
Drummers, dancers, traditional Cuban carnival characters and audience interact to celebrate a colorful and vibrant parade amidst the cries of the Pregones (street vendors), the classic Cuban rumba dance cycle, the songs and dances of the Orishas (deities), culminating in a participatory public conga line grande finale!
