Non-cuban: Ballet Creole at Harbourfront, Apr 7-9

We often post worthwhile live events with dance and music, that aren’t strictly with Cuban identity.  In this case though, there is a link at least: Cuban dancer Jose Carret did the choreography!

Ballet Creole heats up the stage with a sensual and sizzling collection of new and remounted works by some of Canada’s top choreographers; Cuban-born choreographer, Jose Carret Morejon premieres an explosive ballet fuelled by Afro-Cuban rhythms entitled “The Antagonist”. A duel of the sexes which explores the complexities of relationships and love. Canadian dance icon, Danny Grossman and Debbie Wilson remount classic works from their company’s repertoire. A unique opportunity not to be missed!
Ballet Creole’s Artistic Director, Patrick Parson continues his legacy to innovate, experiment and challenge the boundaries of traditional and contemporary aesthetics with the World Premiere of “Trouchka”, an intricate and emotional journey danced to Stravinsky’s classical score “Petrouchka”. Parson re-ignites this classic Russian story of a doll who comes to life, creating a marriage of movement between contemporary and Afro-Caribbean.  Associate choreographer, Gabby Kamino rounds out the program with a new work for the company as well.

Do not miss Ballet Creole’s 21st Spring Season event!!!!

The Antagonist is part of Harbourfront Centre’s Next Steps Series and tickets can be purchased at Harbourfront Box Office. 416.973.4000 or online tickets click here.
