Wednesday Consuelo Herrera gives a special show for black history month… at the YMCA at 20 Grosvenor Street, near Yonge and College area at 8 PM.

Consuelo Herrera is a professional dancer from Habana Cuba,who began her studies in la Casa de Cultura. Consuelo worked with the folkloric dance troupe ”Liberacion 75”,performed in various grand cabarets: ”Tropicana School” in ”Villas Turisticas” in Guanabo,”La Cecilia” in Miramar, and eventually joined Grupo Raices Profundas as a lead dancer and solist.
She worked in documentary film with Raices. She was invited to various international festivals, in Nicaragua, Mexico, Japan, France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, United States, as well as Canada.
Consuelo has worked with some of the best choreographers and musicians in Cuba and Canada. She has been teaching in Toronto since 1997 through established schools such as Ballet Creole, as well as independently. She has since created her own dance company ”Oni Oshun”.
Consuelo Herrera teaches Afro-cuban dance in Bavia Arts Studio every Saturday 1 pm to 2:30 pm. The cost is $20 drop in, or a package of 8 classes for $120.
