Musical director Sean Bellaviti gathers an all-star line up of Toronto salsa talent to pay a musical homage to the one and only Queen of Salsa. Featuring vocalists
Patricia Cano, Alberto and Alberto and Luis Mario Ochoa.
Like jazz icon Ella Fitzgerald, Celia had the unique ability to take standards and make her version the definitive recording – creating classic after classic over the course of her five-decade long career. From the early days in Cuba to her work with the Fania All-Stars in New York and her numerous world tours, we see the whole history of salsa itself reflected in the career of this remarkable artist. Celia was perhaps the most loved salsa vocalist of all time with twenty-three gold albums and and a Grammy award to her name. With arrangements contributed by eight different Canadian latin jazz and salsa artists including Cuban-born, Juno-winning pianist Hilario Duran, the Lula All-Stars’ Viva Celia goes beyond the performance of Cruz’s numerous hits and aims to honour the spirit of Celia’s inimitable sound and creative energy.
