“Memories of Underdevelopment” tells the story of Sergio, who is part of the bourgeoisie, decides to remain in Cuba while his relatives leave the country after the revolutionary takeover. Sergio stays alone and begins to write his memories in search for a reason to live. The Revolution becomes a challenge for him: he tries to analyse it, comprehend and to oppose his bourgeois past. Throughout the film, Sergio recalls his past life, his childhood, his family, his loves and his miseries. It is not only Sergio´s individual life. There is also the background; Batista´s dictatorship, student struggles, bourgeois indifference; and their aftermath: the playa Girón invasion. The mercenaries in Playa Girón are men belonging to Sergio´s own social class.
Everything ends during the October Crisis. Sergio discovers that all his education and values are falling apart.
“Memories of Underdevelopment” is also a confrontation of bourgeois and revolutionary values.Admittance is free of charge.
