Greeting Ms. Alonso and husband Pedro Simón, Director, Cuban National Dance Museum in Havana at Life of a Legend: An Evening in Honour of Alicia Alonso at the Hamilton Club will be Karen Kain, Artistic Director, The National Ballet of Canada, and widely acclaimed as one of the leading classical ballerinas of modern times as well as one of Canada’s foremost art advocates; dancer extraordinaire Evelyn Hart, Artistic Advisor, The Canadian Ballet Youth Ensemble and Veronica Tennant, award-winning film producer and CEO, Veronica Tennant Production.

On hand to welcome Alicia will be a star-studded guest list which includes Her Excellency Teresita de Jesús Vicente Sotolongo, Cuban Ambassador to Canada; Mr. Jorge Soberón, Cuban Consul General in Toronto; Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger, art critic Gary Smith; Belma Gurdil-Diamante, CEO, the Canadian Ballet Youth Ensemble (CBYE) and the Principal Dancers from the Cuban National Ballet.
It is obvious that Hamilton has become a home away from home for Alicia and for the Cuban National Ballet. On this occasion, just as the city once again prepares to embrace the Cuban legend on her journey back home, Alicia, forever elegant and graceful, reciprocates in kind. A personal invitation issued by Hamilton entrepreneur Domenic Diamante brings to Canada Mr. Francisco Pérez Álvarez, Ms. Alonso´s personal chef. Mr. Pérez Álvarez promises to delight the evening’s guests with his creation of a selected array of dishes from Cuba’s famous culinary tradition.
Toronto developer, art benefactor and jazz aficionado Mario Romano will entertain at the piano and sultry, award-winning Latin jazz singing sensation Amanda Martínez and her group add a riveting, Caribbean touch to the evening’s proceedings with her sensuous, bewitching interpretations of Latin American rhythms. Proceeds from the fundraiser and silent auction will benefit the CBYE’s Cuban School of Ballet.
