We passed on that “news” one day when we saw it posted a couple of other places … and realized it was wrong within about a day, and we took it down. If you can still see it somewhere here, please tell us the URL… it is should be hidden on our site.

  7. CeltFest Cuba , the caribbean celebration of music and dance that has migrated from the celtic nations of Europe to the New World takes place in Havana April 1-24 2011. Musicians of the celtic music diaspora are hosted by Galician and Asturian traditional musicians. Galicia and Asturias, the nations now part of Spain, are considered Celtic nations and the music of the gaita (Spanish bagpipe) has been part of the history of Cuba since the island’s colonization.

  8. Hello, I need to learn a Cuban accent. Does anyone know how I can find a Cuban speaker with a heavy accent (when speaking English)? I am willing to pay $20 for 1 hour.

  9. Hi

I have recently begun Cuban Salsa classes and am LOVING it. I would love to go to Cuba to emerse myself in the dancing culture but I don’t have anyone to go with. Anyone know of a tour group that I could join that will be able to provide me with the best cuban salsa experience? Or any advise on places to stay in Havana where I could easily access the club scene?

  10. @Alison
2 annual tours from Toronto I know about. Unfortunately the the AfroLatino salsa dancing tour is just past. Soul Drums goes in May and features both percussion and dance instruction. Their dance classes will focus on the folkloric dances, orisha and rumba. rather than salsa.

Many people don’t wait for a tour group but go with a friend as you suggest. If you don’t run into those people so far, try coming to the Cuban Rueda de Casino classes at Babaluu in Yorkville, Toronto and make some friends among the nice people there. It is most Sunday nights at 8:30 PM, e.g. tonight! Somebody is always talking about their next trip to Cuba…

  11. @Alison
Ritmacuba has been offering classes in Cuba for 28 years. Classes are top notch for beginners to pros in both music and dance. I have been twice (for percussion and singing) and I am their Canadian rep this year. We are close to closing enrolment but there is still some room especially for dancers. And, you will get to be part of a conga comparsa (type of group) officially invited by the city of Santiago to parade before the Carnaval judges! Truly, it’s a fantastic opportunity! Check out the website Be sure to download the pdf for more info and email me at And look up the event page Ritmacuba in Facebook

  25. Hi My name is Dragosh Vujic
I am representing one of Japan’s biggest theme parks in its search for the summer entertainment program. This summer the theme park is planning to hire Caribbean band.
They need a 8 member band which includes one singer.

The band will be playing at a theme park ( a Japanese version of DisneyWorld). They are looking for a Caribbean sounding band, in costume. I think this means what foreign people like or think a Carribbean Band sounds like, probably some sort of Salsa music and other popular Caribbean sounds.

There are 2 possible options and we don’t know which one it will be.

    Job 1

Length of stay: June 11 to Aug 31
salary: $5200.00 US per person, plus $1600.00 for a food allowance
All accommodation (fully furnished including kitchen), airfare, medical insurance is paid for by the company

    Job 2

Length of stay: July 14 to Aug 31
salary: $2800.00 US per person, plus $900.00 for a food allowance
All accommodation (fully furnished including kitchen), airfare, medical insurance is paid for by the company

We don’t know their schedule yet, but they will probably play 3 to 4 times a day for about 20-25 minutes each time. 6 days a week. They are required to stay at the park for 8 hours, even though they are only playing those 3 to 4 shows.

What we need from them first is a video and some pictures. We need this from the group by February 25.

  26. Hello I wanted to know if there were any reggaeton groups coming to toronto any soon, like Gente de Zona. And also if Robertico is coming to do any show in Toronto as well this year.
    Thank you.

  27. @Yaime
Hi Yaime, Osmani Garcia was here a few months ago in October. There will be more, but I don’t think there are any scheduled right now. Robertico was here in 2009… there are comedians from Cuba here in most years, we’ll let you know here if we hear about any!

  28. Necesitamos para un evento el dia 10 de Junio,2012 a partir de las 6 de la tarde por favor dejarme saber si es posible

  29. Hey! I just found out that Air Canada has canceled scheduled airline service to Cuba! WTF. If you want to fly to Cuba via Air Canada you have to do it through Air Canada Vacations. You can’t book with points and no points are awarded for AC Vacations flights. Must be political – practically every AC flight I’ve been on to Havana, Varadero or Santa Clara over the past few years has been packed.

  31. Hi,

I thought you might want to know about this Cuban restaurant at Broadview and Danforth. It’s close to where I live. They have amazing food and mojitos, live music, cigar nights and carnivales once a month. My friends and I go at least once a month! It’s incredible!
